Postdoc position in wave energy

Economic optimisation of a wave energy converter (University of Maynooth, Ireland)

1 Postdoctoral position is available within the Wave Energy Group at the Department of Electronic Engineering of the University of Maynooth, in the following area:

Economic optimisation of a wave energy converter

This project focuses on ‘total’ optimization of wave energy devices, considering not only the maximization of energy output over a relatively short term (e.g. one year), but rather trying to maximise the total economic benefit of a wave energy device, including capital cost (related to size, surface area, materials, etc), geometric shape, control strategy employed and projected operational and maintenance costs. The economic optimization of a device is thought to have significant implications for both the physical description of a device, as well as how the device is controlled through the full spectrum of sea conditions.

Requirements for positions

Applicants should have a PhD in a cognate area (hydrodynamics, wave energy, optimisation, engineering, etc) and ideally some experience at postdoctoral level in project management and interaction with industrial partners. However, experience, while desirable, is not essential. Salary starts at €44,000 (taxable), with annual increments.

All applications should include a covering letter stating the motivation for your application, a full CV, and contact details of two referees

Awards will be based on the merit of your application.  The posts will be advertised until filled.
